PUA20622 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)

Course Description

This highly practical and interactive program provides the knowledge and skills required by responders to perform a range of varied activities such as structural fire fighting, responding to rescue incidents including medical and or road crash rescue.

The skills and knowledge developed on this program can be applied in a wide range of industries such as emergency services, oil and gas, construction and manufacturing and the resources sector.

• PUAEQU001 Prepare, maintain and test response equipment^
• PUAFIR203 Respond to urban fire^
• PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit
• PUAFIR210 Prevent injury
• PUAOPE013 Operate communications systems and equipment
• PUATEA001 Work in a team
  

Electives - Group A (must be completed)

• PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation^
• HLTAID011 Provide first aid

Electives - Group B (recommended)

• PUACOM001 Communicate in the workplace
• PUAWHS001 Follow defined work, health and safety policies and procedures
  
• PUASAR024 Undertake road crash rescue^

• Respiratory & SCBA
  
• Introduction to firemanship and urban fire
• Operational procedures, protocols and equipment
• Compartment fire behaviour, operational fire fighting and rescue
• Road crash rescue

Mode of Delivery

This course will be delivered as a blend of distance/online and face-to-face learning and assessment.

Duration*

This course is scheduled for:

Distance/online learning and assessment and up to 14 days of face-to-face practical demonstrations (depending on chosen electives).

Student's should allow approximately 6 months to complete this course.

Pre-Requisite and Entry Requirements

Students holding a previous certification for the unit of competency and are seeking recognition must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.

Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this course.

^PUAFIR210 Prevent injury is a formal pre-requisite for PUAEQU001 and PUAFIR207 and is covered within this program.

^PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit is a formal pre-requisite for PUAFIR203 and is covered within this program.

^HLTAID011 Provide first aid is a formal pre-requisite for PUASAR022 and is covered within this program.

^HLTAID011 Provide first aid and PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation are formal pre-requisites for PUASAR024 and is covered within this program.

Certification

Students who successfully complete this course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response and Rescue (RTO 90774).

Student Requirements

Students must be physically capable of performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Students must wear appropriate clothing and footwear when attending face-to-face sessions.
